What is Money Smart Colorado?
Money Smart Colorado was a local, public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances, achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of organizations across the state including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media. These partners came together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers where they can get help, and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout a designated week in April. Programming was offered to all demographics, income levels and covered all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to first time home buying to estate planning.
How Did It All Get Started?
The idea of this week originated in Chicago by the Federal Reserve Bank. The Money Smart Colorado effort was coordinated by Colorado Jump$tart, a diverse group of organizations working together to promote personal financial literacy. The goal of Money Smart Colorado was to help all Coloradans – no matter the age – to become better educated on how to successfully manage their personal finances.
How is it Growing and Helping Reach More in Colorado?
When Money Smart Colorado started more than five years ago, the goal was to educate Coloradoans on the importance on being smart with their money. Each and every year, the program has continued to grow and reach more people. There has been a great opportunity to expand the efforts and to join a national campaign being led by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
