Principles for Effective Financial Education

The webinar shares strategies and practitioners’ tips on how financial educators can put the principles into practice.  Based on research on financial well-being, the CFPB has distilled a set of five principles that can be put into practice through financial education aimed at adults:

  • Know the individuals and families to be served
  • Provide actionable, relevant and timely information
  • Improve key financial skills
  • Build on motivation
  • Make it easy to make good decisions and follow through

The five principles build on research-based insights about how people make financial decisions, on feedback from financial education practitioners, and on what the CFPB has learned about consumers’ own experiences in the financial marketplace.
