Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has partnered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) as part of the expansion of Money Smart Week®. 

The CFP Board is a non-profit organization whose mission is to benefit the public by granting the Certified Financial Planner™ certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning. The CFP Board currently oversees over 75,000 CFP® professionals in the U.S. who advise individuals and families on a broad range of personal finance matters, including: retirement, estate planning, taxes, investments, budgeting and insurance, among many others.

One-On-One FInancial Planning

Offering a financial planning clinic at a Money Smart Week event can enable people to meet one-on-one with volunteer CFP® professional and receive free, personalized financial guidance.  The clinics are organized in a unique, pressure-free setting and the information comes with no strings attached.

CFP Board’s Let’s Make a Plan website contains a wealth of resources on financial planning, including consumer publications, e-Newsletter, information on getting started with a financial plan and how to find a qualified financial planner to help pull it all together. Go to website

Money Smart Week Partnership

As a Money Smart Week national partner, CFP Board will promote the initiative to CFP® professionals and encourage them to get involved by conducting educational workshops and pro bono one-on-one counseling at local events.  To find a CFP® professional in the partner database, Money Smart Week planning teams can search for “CFP®” or “Certified Financial Planner™” in the individual’s title. 

Educational Workshops

CFP® professionals are highly qualified to discuss virtually all personal finance topics and are available to present educational workshops at Money Smart Week events.
